The GM NP205 is equipped with a single lever shifter and is designed to provide the following shift positions: 2HI, 4HI, N, and 4LO. Since the NP205 is designed with two internal shift rails, the aftermarket has responded with twin stick shift lever kits. In order to take full advantage of these twin stick levers, custom rails are required.
In many instances, the stock GM rails are modified with a grinder to get the additional shift positions noted below.
There are two reasons to purchase our new rails instead of using the existing GM parts:
- The NP205 is a very old transfer case. In almost all cases, the exposed ends of both rails become rusted from outside moisture and also heavily grooved at the rail seal area.
- Using a grinder is often inaccurate and creates a loose or sloppy fit with the interlock cross-shafts inside the case.
Purchasing NEW rails from JB Conversions, Inc. ensures a smooth, ground surface and precisely machined clearances for the interlock cross-shafts.
Upon installation of the new rail kit, the following shift positions become available:
- 2HI (rear wheel drive)
- 2HI (front wheel drive)
- 2LO (rear wheel drive)
- 2LO (front wheel drive)
- 4HI
- 4LO
- NEUTRAL
